Comets I've Seen (with or without binoculars unless telescope is mentioned; may not include all I've seen, due to lack of record-keeping)
First: either C/1957 P1 (Mrkos; =1957 V) or C/1956 R1 (Arend-Roland; =1957 III) I remember my dad showing me a comet, and the year was 1957, but I still don't know which comet it was.
C/1996 B2 (Hyakutake) a great comet
C/1995 O1 (Hale-Bopp) a great comet
C/1999 S4 (LINEAR) unexpectedly disintegrated; seen with telescopes; all the others seen with or without small, handheld binoculars
C/2001 A2 (LINEAR) worked hard to see this morning comet with 10x50 binoculars
C/2002 C1 (Ikeya-Zhang) evening comet easy with 10x50 binoculars
C/2002 T7 (LINEAR) Feb. 2004, just barely visible from a dark site with 8x42 binoculars
C/2001 Q4 (NEAT) May-June 2004, easily visible for quite a few nights
C/2004 Q2 (Machholz) December 2004 - January 2005, easily visible for quite a few nights; a very memorable comet
C/2006 A1 (Pojmanski) Before and after March 1, 2006 - not easy, only a few favorable mornings to even try
C/73P (Schwassmann-Wachmann 3, Fragments B and C) May, 2006 - not easy, only a few favorable mornings to even try
C/2006 M4 (Swan) October 2006 - looked like a globular cluster; 3 nights near M13, was bigger and brighter
