I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Government and an affiliate of the Department of Religious Studies and the Center for African and African American Studies.
I specialize in the study of political behavior, with an emphasis on racial and ethnic politics, and religion and politics. My forthcoming book, “Politics in the Pews: The Political Mobilization of Black Churches,” provides a discussion of how Black religious institutions choose to become involved in politics. The book combines both qualitative and quantitative data to analyze the various factors that lead to church based political activism. In addition, my research focuses on the interaction of race and religion. I am concerned with how religious interpretations may differ between racial groups and how this might shape political attitudes. Most recently, I have begun examining issues related to national pride and national identity. |
