History of LAMP

The UT Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (formerly Third Age University) began with the formation of U.T. LAMP in 1989. One of LAMP's founding members, Dr. Louis DeMoll, chronicles the founding of LAMP in his 1992 article, "U.T. LAMP: An Educational Adventure." Dr. DeMoll remains active in LAMP.

Active members Betty and John Wood (Betty is a past Chair of LAMP) pick up where Dr. DeMoll left off and offer "History of LAMP: Into The 21st Century," written in 2002.

Another past Chair of LAMP, Greg Gregory, provides details on the UT LAMP™ Margie Hale Endowed Presidential Scholarship Fund, including a list of scholarship recipients. Begun in 1998 in recognition of the benefits of education, the Fund reached Endowed Presidential status in only three years, and it continues to grow. As of May, 2006, the investment value of the Fund exceeded $126,000, and 17 scholarships had been awarded to that date.
