UT SAGE™ (Seminars for Adult Growth and Enrichment) is a member-directed annual membership program which operates under the auspices of the UT Division of Continuing Education.
Member volunteers plan their own curriculum and social activities. Each spring the members elect an Executive Committee which works closely with the UT SAGE™ Administrator to ensure smooth operation of the program and conformity with the operating guidelines of the Division of Continuing Education and the Rules and Policies of UT Regents.
The program year is divided into three six-week sessions: fall, winter, and spring. Each session is comprised of fifteen seminars and is kicked off with a half-day Enrichment Lecture Program bringing the entire membership together for lectures on a timely topic. Presented by knowledgeable speakers, each segment of the program is followed by a lively question and answer period.
Members who serve on the Curriculum Committee determine the topics and recruit the speakers.
Suggestions from the membership are encouraged and the assistance of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute staff may be requested.
Seminar directors may be community leaders, active or retired faculty, professionals in various fields, or Osher Lifelong Learning Institute members with particular areas of interest or expertise. Members may also become seminar directors by volunteering to arrange an entire seminar, obtaining a different speaker for each of the six weeks. An example might be a seminar with six authors speaking on the creative process or six scientists dealing with some aspect of technology.
No. All lecturers and seminar directors volunteer their time and expertise at no cost to the program
There are six standing committees: Executive, Enrichment, Curriculum, Social, Travel, and Membership/Publication, as well as several special committees. These committees encourage members to join and participate in their activities. In addition, members may sign up for Special Interest Groups formed from time to time in response to members' sustained interest in areas outside the regular curriculum. These groups are organized by the members themselves and meet in locations outside the UT campus.
SAGE is housed in the Joe C. Thompson Conference Center (TCC) on the campus of The University of Texas. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute contracts with TCC to provide meeting rooms, audiovisual equipment and maintenance, technical assistance, and membership and financial record keeping.
Yes, the Thompson Center has a parking lot at the corner of Red River Street and Dean Keaton Drive which may be used by members at no cost on meeting days. In the event the lot is full, discounted parking is available in nearby UT parking garages.
